CHAIR ON TEACHER MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

The Rajeev Gandhi Foundation Chair on Teacher Management and Development in NUEPA became operational with the appointment of the Professor and Chair in June 2013. Vimala Ramachandran was appointed to the RGF supported chair and she joined in June 2013. Prerna Goel Chatterjee joined as a consultant in September 2013 and Dr Anupam Pachauri joined as Project Consultant in October 2013


As a first step towards identifying the scope of work to be done under the aegis of this Chair, a free-flowing brainstorming was held in-house and a few project ideas were identified. This was followed by a systematic survey of published work on teacher management and development in India as well as global literature on the subject. Simultaneously NUEPA decided to constitute an advisory committee to guide the work of this chair. NUEPA has constituted an Advisory Committee to guide the research being undertaken under the aegis of the RGF supported Chair on TM & TD:

Two projects are underway, namely:


9-State research study to document and analyse the recruitment and deployment policies and practise, salary and working conditions (transfer, postings, professional growth and development) of all categories of teachers (regular and contract teachers) working in the government schools at two levels: elementary and secondary. This will be done through state-level field based study involving perusal of government notifications, orders and interviews with key administrators involved in teacher management.
National opinion survey on what teachers think and feel about the way they are positioned in the education system and how the teaching cadre is managed. This project is expected to be launched in June 2014 and should be completed by 31 March 2015.
