The need for adequate, relevant and reliable data base
on higher education for planning of and also to
undertake research on higher education needs no further
emphasis. But unfortunately the existing data base on
higher education suffers from inadequacy, incomplete
coverage and time lag. The Ministry of Human Resource
Development (MHRD) has constituted a Task Force to
conduct an All India Survey of Higher Education to fill
this gap. In pursuance of the decision of Task Force,
the National University of Educational Planning and
Administration (NUEPA) is conducting an All India Survey
of Higher Education. All
institutions of higher education-both private and public
are intended to be covered in Survey. These include all
universities including deemed to be universities,
institutions of national importance and other
institutions of university level, general and
professional/technical colleges and institutions that
offer post-secondary education like polytechnics, DIETs,
etc. The survey would collect data on basic profile of
institutions like management, affiliation status,
courses offered, and income and expenditure of
institutions, etc. The data on enrolment and faculty
would be collected by broad discipline, gender, social
category, etc. It is hoped that the Survey would provide
base line data for planning further expansion of higher
education. |
